Banksia integrifolia known as Coastal Banksia is depicted both in flower and as a seed pod against a landscape of hills, sea and sky. The beautifully distinctive banksia is always a joy to paint, here it is stylized and depicted as the focus of the painting. The colours are playful and dramatic with lots of tonal value while retaining areas of light.

Washes of loose and heavy watercolour are built up and held together by a framework of delicate ink linework which gives a stained glass effect.
